Proposed Site
The proposed place for the project is at Beaulieu Treehouse Education Center, situated inside the New Forest. It is within close proximity towards the most populated village which is Brockenhurst, Lymmington and Lyndhurst.
A treehouse is a perfect place to support the program and the aim of the project because of its environmentally friendly construction material and method. By using this place, children will be surrounded by simplicity design that immersed itself in nature.
The complex consists of 2 buildings. One is larger than the other and they are linked with a wooden bridge. I can imagine that 1 building holds the area for education and the other is for the main activity.
Project's Aim
The aim of the project is to bridge the gap between children and nature. Designing a space that becomes a mediator which introduces children to the nature as well as triggering their sense of appreciation and love.
What is the matter?
Today's children has the tendency to neglect nature and prefer to be captivated indoors along with technology such as video games and television. We are constantly losing our nature and if the children have less interest in exploring more of nature now, the next generation will be in danger. It is crucial to act now, planting the love of nature that our grandparents had practiced back in their eras, back to this present generation.
What is the factors hindering them to play outdoors?
- Parental fear
- Urbanization without nature
- Devaluation of nature
- Technology addiction
This is a condition which Richard Louv coined as "Nature Deficit Disorder": the human costs of alienation from nature. This results in detrimental effects for children, shaping future adults and families.
